President John Dramani Mahama has assured the Black Stars of his unwavering support, promising to be present at the Accra Sports Stadium when they face Chad in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday, March 21.
Mahama made this pledge during a visit to the team’s training session on Wednesday, where he sought to inspire the players ahead of the crucial match.
“I’ll take time off and watch the game myself. Even though my heart is not very good at watching soccer, I will brave it. They say I should eat before I go and sit down. And my hope is that you would justify my sitting and watching you guys,” he stated.
“The whole of Ghana is going to be behind you, and I’m sure that you can make it,” Mahama added.
He also emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting not only the Black Stars but also the junior national teams, urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the management committee to work collaboratively towards success.
“We’re gonna work closely together with you so that we can create the atmosphere for not only the Black Stars but all the other junior teams to perform,” he assured.
The Black Stars currently sit third in Group I with nine points and will be looking to secure maximum points against Chad on March 21 in Accra and Madagascar on March 24 in Morocco.
After missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the team is determined to improve its standing in the qualifiers and secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
