The Golden Boy award, founded in 2003 by Italian publication Tuttosport, celebrates the best under-21 footballer in Europe. Previous winners of the award include football legends Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé, making it one of the most sought-after accolades for rising stars.
Born in England to Ghanaian parents, Mainoo joins a shortlist that includes Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and his Manchester United teammate Alejandro Garnacho.
