The owner and President of Medeama SC- Moses Armah Paker- has welcomed calls by a section of the club’s fans and the people of Tarkwa to name its new Stadium after Goldfields, Tarkwa-Damang Executive Vice President and the head of Goldfields West Africa Mr. Alfred Baku.
According to the ace football administrator, the Goldfields boss has been very instrumental in the construction of the new Stadium for the people of Tarkwa and its environs and would, therefore, be happy if the Stadium is named after him.
The Executive Vice President and Head of West Africa, Alfred Baku is leading a charge to transform the old mining town into a football hub.
Goldfields, Tarkwa-Damang has undeniably won hearts and minds with the construction of a $16.5m 10,000 seater capacity stadium together with mega sponsorship for Medeama Sporting Club.
The mining giants have been instrumental in the successful drive of the former FA Cup Champions, pumping in millions of dollars to drive the ambitious Ghanaian side over the past decade.
The mining firm has been instrumental in the driving juggernauts in the development and promotion of the game in the Western region of Ghana.
Alfred Baku, who is an alumni of the University of Mines and Technology (Umat), is given back to society by spearheading the redevelopment of the Tarkwa NA Aboso park.
His remarkable leadership and direct involvement in getting the multi-national company to inject capital into the construction of the edifice has been hailed and one which will linger on the minds of the chiefs and people of Tarkwa for eternity.
The new stadium will be a major boost for the players, coaching staff and the people of Tarkwa.
Speaking to freelance George Mensah Frans- widely known in the Sports arena as Icon after Medeama’s FA Cup quarterfinal win over Attram DeVisser Soccer Academy, Moses Armah supported calls by the people of Tarkwa to handsomely reward the good works of Alfred Baku by naming the Stadium after him.
He said: I will be very happy if the Stadium is named after him, his vision to push such a good course for the people of Tarkaw is highly commendable. He knows football creates employment and also brings unity that is why I think in his knowledge spearheaded such a wonderful project. I wish that would be done as a form of our appreciation to him. I will appeal to the leaders in Tarkwa to consider such an idea and name the Stadium after him and God will bless us all”
The facility will help to attract and retain talents as well as providing an excellent base for community engagement and footballing excellence in the Southern part of Ghana that will inspire future generations.
The Mauve and Yellows are currently in the semifinals of the ongoing MTN FA Cup. They will battle Ghana Premier League Champions Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday at the Cape Coast Stadium for a ticket to play in the grand finale.
