According to Charles Amofa, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ghana’s earnings from their participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be distributed to other sports disciplines in the country.
Despite the Black Stars’ early exit from the tournament after finishing last in Group H, Ghana earned approximately $12 million, surpassing expectations for that stage of the competition.
Recognizing the financial demands of sports in Ghana, Amofa emphasized the importance of supporting other disciplines affiliated with the National Sports Authority (NSA).
He mentioned the need to allocate funds for local and international competitions and expressed confidence that the government would provide guidance on managing and distributing the funds.
“We know sports in Ghana is capital intensive, the National Sports Authority (NSA) has almost about 50 disciplines affiliated to the authority and we also need to pay attention to these other disciplines as well”
“The request for competitions both locally and internationally have to be budgeted for and I’m confident when the money comes, the government will give directions as to how to manage and disburse it,” Charles Amofa said on Happy FM.
