Hearts of Oak forward, Gladson Awako scored on his debut against Elmina Sharks in week eight of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League on Wednesday.
The Phobians, post a horrible continental campaign were bent on claiming their first three points of the domestic top flight season after recording poor starts in four games.
The 21 time league champions recorded three opening draws against Legon Cities, West Africa Football Academy and Aduana Stars before suffering a 2-0 defeat at the Len Clay Stadium to AshantiGold.
A bite at week eight clash saw the 2000 CAF Champions League winners go a single past Elmina Sharks at the Nduom Stadium courtesy experienced Gladson Awako who finally joined the side after a protracted transfer.
The 30-year-old rose from the bench to replace Enock Esubonteng on the 64th minute and went on to announce his presence with a beautiful goal on the 72nd minute.
The former Berekum Chelsea and TP Mazembe attacking midfielder was teed off by Salifu Ibrahim a few meters away from Sharks goal area; he made a beautiful turn after a perfect first touch lifted the ball a notch closer to his knee level before smashing home the only goal from about 20 yards.
Awako, who joined the 2004 CAF Confederation Cup winners in a 2-year deal from city rivals, Great Olympics, has been talking about that important first touch on the ball.

“Where I was during the first half, I was monitoring because we couldn’t drive from the back and the coach keeps telling us to try to shoot at goal.
“So my mindset was if I get the chance I will just go for goal, I will just go for it.
“And I wanted one but I didn’t get it but when I got this ball, my first control did everything for me,” Gladson Awako said.
“We are praying, we will keep on working hard and I know there is more there to do so they [fans] should keep on praying for Gladson Awako and the team.” Gladson Awako added.
Hearts of Oak have now collected six points from five games with three outstanding matches against Berekum Chelsea, Asante Kotoko and Medeama to clear.
They lie third from bottom of the 18-club league with their next game against Dreams FC in week nine.
