Former Ghana midfielder, Anthony Annan, has made startling accusations against the medical team of the Black Stars, alleging that they misled the public regarding an injury he sustained during a pre-AFCON friendly in 2013.
In an interview with Geomends Media, Annan disclosed that the team doctors had falsely attributed his injury to his club, Osasuna, when in reality, he had hurt himself during a match against Egypt.
Detailing the incident, Annan recounted his experience during the friendly game against Egypt, where he twisted his ankle while attempting a pass. Despite initially underestimating the severity of the injury, he was later diagnosed with a cracked bone, which led to his withdrawal from the tournament.
Despite receiving treatment, including injections and beach sand therapy, Annan’s recovery was not sufficient to enable him to return to the field.
This forced him to miss the remainder of the tournament and eventually retire from international football prematurely. Annan lamented that the decision of the team doctors to fabricate information about his injury had severe consequences for him, including the loss of his salary for the second round of the season, as his parent club, Schalke, refused to pay him.
Reflecting on the situation, Annan expressed frustration at the false narrative perpetuated by the team doctors, highlighting the contradiction between their claims and the reality of his situation with his club, Osasuna.
Annan’s international career saw him make 62 appearances for Ghana, during which he scored two goals, showcasing his talent and contribution to the national team.
Currently based in Germany, Annan continues to pursue his passion for football, playing for the lower-tier side DJK Arminia Lirich.
