Black Stars defender Alidu Seidu proudly identifies as a “mummy’s boy,” and his deep affection for his mother is rooted in the pivotal role she has played throughout his life and career.
Reflecting on his upbringing, Seidu recalls the struggles his mother faced and the financial hardships that marked his childhood. His primary motivation has always been to bring joy to her life.
“My mum suffered a lot. I saw her suffering to get something for us to eat,” he shared with Flashscore. “My motivation is to put a smile on my mother’s face. She always fought for us to have what we need. Sometimes there was nothing to eat, but seeing her put in so much effort to ensure we had something to eat is something I can never forget.”
Seidu’s journey to success was far from straightforward. He encountered multiple rejections while trying out for the JMG Academy before finally securing his spot. It was at the academy that he refined his skills, which ultimately led to his move to France and a successful career in Ligue 1.
Beginning his professional journey at Clermont, Seidu excelled with the B team and quickly earned a promotion to the senior squad. He currently plays for Rennes, where he has become a key player.
His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, with a market value of €9 million, reflecting his consistency at both the club and international levels.
Seidu has established himself as an integral member of the Black Stars, having made 17 appearances and scored one goal, including a spot on Ghana’s squad for the 2022 World Cup finals.
