Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has pleaded with Ghanaians to forget about what has happened previously and support the stars again ahead of the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
The senior national team lost the usual spirited support from Ghanaians both the aged and young following the 2014 world cup debacle in Brazil and has since not been attractive to the die-hard fans who trooped to the stadia to watch the stars play.
Gyan who recently signed for U.A.E based Al Ahli thanked Ghanaians for their prayers but begged them to come back to the stadium to support the Black Stars.
“I thanked all Ghanaians for their prayers & support but my sincere plea is that ,Ghanaians should let go of everything and come to the stadium whenever the national team is playing”.
Gyan expressed his worries on the level of attendance on the Stars last game in Accra which he described as very poor.
‘’The attendance at our last game I witnessed was very very poor unlike previous where the stadium shaked and things went well, but I don’t know whether the fans have some Anger toward us”. Gyan told Kumasi based Angel FM.
Gyan who holds the record for the most goals scored by an African player at the world cup advised that at the end of the day is about Ghana and not individual players hence his humble call for fans to support the Stars team.
“I beg everyone to support our national team whole heartedly because even the elderly have a saying that whenever your child defecates on you, you wash. And personally as a captain I am not happy with what is going on”.
Ghana host the Cranes of Uganda at the Tamale sports stadium next month for their first leg of the Russia 2018 world cup qualifier.
