Newcastle United are keeping a close eye on West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus as a backup option in case they fail to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
According to senior reporter Pete O’Rourke on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Kudus is one of several names being considered for the right-wing position. “As it stands, Bryan Mbeumo is their top target,” O’Rourke explained. “Kudus is on their list and has admirers within the Newcastle hierarchy.”
Mbeumo is also being targeted by Manchester United, but Newcastle hold an advantage as they can offer Champions League football, something United cannot promise at the moment. If the Magpies lose out on Mbeumo, Kudus is expected to become a priority.
Newcastle are aware of Kudus’ release clause—reported to be around £75 million—but believe West Ham may accept a lower offer due to their current situation. “They’ll definitely be willing to listen to offers for the Ghana international,” O’Rourke noted. “Newcastle can afford a deal for Kudus.”
The 24-year-old forward is also said to be interested in playing in Europe’s top competition. “Kudus still feels he has a lot to offer on the European scene,” added O’Rourke. “If Newcastle come calling with Champions League football, it’s something he would be open to.”
Kudus is not the only attacker linked with a move to St James’ Park this summer. Brighton’s Joao Pedro is also on Newcastle’s radar, with the club preparing for the likely exit of striker Callum Wilson.
