Goalkeeper Frederick Asare has officially parted ways with Asante Kotoko following the expiration of his contract, bringing an end to his two-year stint with the club.
The 25-year-old shot-stopper, who has fallen down the pecking order behind Guinean international Mohammed Camara, opted not to renew his deal with the 2024/25 FA Cup winners after both parties failed to reach an agreement during contract extension talks.
The club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) had been in negotiations with Asare to extend his stay, but discussions reportedly broke down over financial disagreements.
Asare joined Kotoko on a free transfer in 2022 after leaving Accra Lions, where he played a pivotal role in helping the club secure promotion to the Ghana Premier League in 2021. He arrived at Kotoko with high expectations but struggled for consistent game time, particularly in the recently concluded season.
In the 2024/25 campaign, Asare managed just 15 league appearances, during which he kept seven clean sheets and conceded 12 goals.
Despite earning his maiden call-up to the Ghana senior national team in 2023, Asare is yet to make his debut for the Black Stars and has since been overlooked by the technical team — a situation largely attributed to his limited minutes at the club level.
