Asante Kotoko forward Albert Amoah continued his sensational form on Sunday, scoring the decisive goal in a hard-fought 1-0 win over rivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The match was a fierce contest, with both sides battling for supremacy. Kotoko dominated large portions of the game, creating several scoring opportunities, particularly in the first half, but failed to capitalize.
As the game entered stoppage time and seemed destined to end in a draw, Amoah seized on a defensive mix-up in the Hearts backline. Displaying composure, he slotted home the winner, delivering a crucial victory and securing bragging rights for the Porcupine Warriors.
In a post-match interview, the 22-year-old striker acknowledged the challenge posed by Hearts defender Kelvin Osei Asibey, whom he described as a formidable opponent.
“Osei Asibey is a very strong defender and gave me a tough time,” Amoah said. He also dedicated his winning goal to former Kotoko star Eric Bekoe, who had offered words of encouragement ahead of the match.
“Eric Bekoe called me this morning and said, ‘Albert, you have a goal today.’ I give him credit for the motivation.”
Amoah’s latest goal brings his tally to eight in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season. With this crucial win, Kotoko will look to maintain their momentum as they prepare for an away fixture against Dreams FC in the next round of matches.
