Otto Addo has embarked on his tenure as head coach of the Black Stars team, marking his return for a second spell with Ghana’s national squad.
Securing a 34-month contract with an option for an additional 24 months, the former Ghana international steps in to fill the void left by Chris Hughton, who departed following the Black Stars’ disappointing performance at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, where Ghana faced early elimination from the tournament at the group stage.
Addo’s reign kicks off during the March international break, with Ghana scheduled to face Nigeria and Uganda on March 22 and March 26 respectively.
The four-time African champions wasted no time, commencing their training sessions in Morocco under the guidance of new coach Otto Addo, alongside his technical team featuring Joseph Laumann, John Paintsil, and Fatawu Dauda.
A substantial portion of the 26 players called up for the upcoming matches participated in today’s training session, gearing up for the challenges ahead. Ghanaian captain Andre Ayew, who recently achieved a significant milestone in the French Ligue, was among those spotted at the Black Stars training camp, alongside talents like Tariq Lamptey, Denis Odoi, and Joseph Wollacott.
Additional players, including Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Patrick Kpozo, Antoine Semenyo, Alidu Seidu, Ernest Nuamah, and Jordan Ayew, also joined the intensive training sessions, demonstrating their commitment to the team’s preparations.
Following the international break, Otto Addo will return to Dortmund to continue his duties with the club until the season’s conclusion.
However, he is anticipated to assume the permanent role as head coach of Ghana’s national team in May, ushering in a new era for the Black Stars under his leadership.
