The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has received an overwhelming response in its search for a new coach for the Ghana national team, with over 600 applications flooding in from coaches worldwide.
The vacancy arose after the GFA parted ways with Chris Hughton following the team’s disappointing performance at the AFCON 2023, where they failed to secure a single victory in the group stage.
To spearhead the selection process, the GFA established a committee headed by Vice President Mark Addo. The committee’s mandate is to identify and appoint a coach who embodies a winning mentality, aligns with Ghana’s football philosophy, and resonates with the ethos of the national team.
Among the applicants are several renowned coaches, including former Bayern Munich coach Felix Magath, ex-West Ham coach Nikola Jurcevic, and former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu.
Notable local applicants include former Bibiani Goldstars coach Michael Osei.
The application deadline, set by the GFA, has elapsed, and the committee is currently engaged in the rigorous selection process. The ideal candidate is expected to possess a minimum of 15 years of coaching experience, along with exemplary discipline and tactical acumen.
With applicants hailing from Europe, South America, North America, Africa, and Ghana itself, the competition for the coveted position is intense. Fans eagerly await the GFA’s decision, slated for later this month, as they anticipate the appointment of a coach capable of guiding the Black Stars to success.
