Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim has broken his silence on the circumstances surrounding his exit from the club, offering insight into his strained relationship with ex-Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum.
Speaking in an interview with GTV Sports Plus, the Black Stars shot-stopper admitted that his own form was partly to blame for his demotion and eventual departure from the Porcupine Warriors.
“We should be honest — it’s a job we are doing,” Danlad said. “So if you play and things don’t go smoothly, it’s not every coach that can say, ‘keep playing.’ The head coach [Prosper Ogum] also had to think about keeping his job.”
Danlad’s comments reflect a mature acknowledgment of performance-based decisions that affected his role at the club. Despite previously being a fan favourite and a key figure in Kotoko’s 2021/22 Ghana Premier League title-winning squad, his later performances drew criticism, leading to reduced playing time under Ogum.
Since his departure, the 21-year-old has revived his career at Ethiopian Coffee Sport Club, where he has become one of the standout performers in the 2024/25 Ethiopian Premier League season. Danlad has recorded an impressive 14 clean sheets in 24 appearances, reinforcing his reputation as a top goalkeeper and earning praise for his consistency and leadership at the back.
