21-year-old left-back Ebenezer Annan, earning his maiden call-up to the senior national team, showcased his potential as he made his debut for the Black Stars in a 2-1 loss against Nigeria last Thursday.
Reflecting on his call-up, Annan expressed his delight, saying, “I was very happy when I received the call-up. In my mind, I was like, finally they’ve noticed my performances.”
Annan’s impressive performance caught the eye of coach Otto Addo, earning him a starting spot in the 2-2 draw against Uganda in an international friendly on Tuesday.
The young defender, who joined Serbia Superliga club Novi Pazar from Bologna last summer after a loan spell at Imolese in Serie D, was recognized as the best left-back in the first half of the Serbia Superliga last year.
Recalling his journey, Annan shared, “When I joined Novi Pazar, my plan and effort was to do my best. I have always believed that I will play for the national team, but I didn’t expect it to come this soon.”
Annan admitted feeling a bit apprehensive upon arriving at the national team camp as a new player but found comfort in the warm reception from his teammates. He praised the camaraderie among the squad, emphasizing the seamless communication and unity.
Making his debut against Nigeria, Annan embraced the opportunity, playing as a left wing-back and contributing both defensively and offensively. Despite the loss, he received encouragement from the coach and relished the experience of wearing the national jersey for the first time.
“Putting on the national jersey is one of the exciting moments in my career,” concluded Annan, expressing his pride and gratitude for the opportunity to represent his country at the highest level.
