Dr. Randy Abbey, the newly appointed chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, has expressed optimism about the potential to transform Ghana’s senior national football team.
His remarks come in the wake of the Black Stars’ failure to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, set to be held in Morocco later this year.
After succeeding Mark Addo in the role, Dr. Abbey underscored the importance of teamwork and collaboration in achieving success. He highlighted the wealth of expertise within the committee, emphasizing that their collective effort would be instrumental in improving the fortunes of the team.
“It’s not about me; it’s about the team that I work with,” he said in an interview with Citi Sports. “Fortunately, I have some very competent members on the team. That’s a good team, and I believe that together, we will be able to leverage our experiences to assist the technical team and the playing body to change the fortunes of the Black Stars,” he added.
The revamped Management Committee features notable figures, including Stephen Appiah, the former Black Stars captain, who takes up the position of Vice Chairman and Player Relations Officer. Samuel Aboabire, the Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association and GFA Executive Council member, along with Moses Armah, the President of Medeama Sporting Club, will handle operations and matchday activities while ensuring that sponsors, partners, and stakeholders are adequately catered to.
Additionally, Richard Nsenkyire, the President of FC Samartex 1996, will serve as a member with special duties. This diverse group of experienced professionals is expected to work collectively toward restoring the Black Stars’ position as a dominant force in African football.
