Ghanaian boxing referee, Roger Banor has disclosed why he called off the bout between Emmanuel Tagoe and Fernando Saucedo in the 10th Round at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday night.
He explains the bout was a one-sided bout leading to the call off of the world title fight, claiming he gave Saucedo the chance because he was 12 points behind his opponent Emmanuel Tagoe having gone missing in the party.
“In a course of the fighting, if you are ahead or behind 10 points and you are not in the fight the referee has every right to abrogate the fight. He (Saucedo) was not in the fight and he never came to the party” he told Kumasi Angel FM.
“Actually, I rather decided to give him the chance because he was 12 points behind. So I gave him the chance and actually, his trainer never helped to mark for me to stop the bout” he added.
Referee Banor claims the throwing in of the towel is long stopped over fifteen years because it is no longer used.
He indicated that it is the trainer who goes to the apron to signal to the referee as a telegraphic that “my ward has had enough so please kindly end the fight so for his trainer to come onto the apron prompted me to stop the fight”.
