Southampton manager Russell Martin has lauded the ability of English-born Ghanaian forward Sam Amo-Ameyaw after the player’s involvement in the club’s pre-season.
The 17-year-old looks set to play a role for the Saints this season in the English Championship after signing his first professional contract with the club.
Amo-Ameyaw has signed a three-year deal with the club and played earlier in the club’s friendly game against Turkish side Goztepe as well as the game against Reading.
Speaking about the youngster, Russell Martin said: “You’ve got to be really careful with young players but he’s an exceptional talent.
“He was 17 a few days ago and he’s signed his first pro contract.
“I think the other players really respect his ability and attitude to work.”
Amo-Ameyaw had an outstanding debut season at Saints, beginning with positive performances for the Under-18s and culminating with the then-16-year-old becoming a vital player for the title-winning Under-21s in Premier League 2.
-Ameyaw made his senior debut on the final day of the Premier League season with an exhilarating late cameo against Liverpool, after scoring a brace in the final PL2 game of the season that ultimately secured their title win.
