Sports and Recreation Minister-designate, Kofi Adams, has called for a special security arrangement for Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League following the tragic stabbing of a club supporter after their Matchday 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC.
Francis Frimpong, a devoted Kotoko fan, was fatally stabbed during clashes between supporters of both teams after the match at the Nana Konamansah Park.
Speaking on *The Pulse* on *Joy News*, Kofi Adams emphasized the need for enhanced security measures whenever Kotoko plays in certain parts of the country, citing a history of violence against the club in the region.
“One thing from my reading is that, anytime Kotoko is playing a match in that part of the country, there seems to be some unpleasant situations,” Adams noted.
“Sometimes, not just on the pitch, but after the game, and even at times, on their way back, they encounter such incidents.
“What it means also is that some special arrangement will have to be made for Kotoko anytime they have to play in that area.”
Adams also assured that security protocols would be improved before the next round of Ghana Premier League matches.
“You are not going to have the same thing as in the past. We will improve security at the venues,” he stated.
In response to the violent events, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has suspended the Ghana Premier League indefinitely and imposed a home ban on Nsoatreman FC while investigations continue.
