Ghana could face a potential FIFA ban after Sports Minister Hon. Isaac Asiamah refused to hold a schedule meeting with executives of the World Football governing body.
Media reports indicate the Minister opted out of a meeting claiming it could breach law following a ten-day ban on football activities.
Court have ordered officials of the Ghana Football Association not to involve themselves in any football activities after an injunction was placed by the Attorney General to allow investigation of the nations football governing body.
Government have already taken steps to dissolve the Ghana Football Association after some members were exposed in a video released by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas which saw several officials of the football Association involved in various scandalous acts.
The government have further set-up a five member committee to oversee football activities in the country, an action which breaches FIFA’s law which clearly prevents government from interfering with football activities of its members states.
The World Football governing body as part of its plans to solve Ghana’s football crises sent a delegation led by Caribbean Veron Mosengo-Omba to hold a meeting with the Sports Minister and members of the Football Association which could have possibly ended the impasse on the game in the country.
However the meeting expected to take place on Friday is said to have been cancelled after the Sports Minister refused to show up ultimately “confirming” government’s stance to dissolve the FA.
The latest development further increases Ghana’s risk of being expelled as a member country of the Federation of International football Association (FIFA) which could go further to affect the various Nations team’s and Clubs in the country.
Refusal to resolve the issue would prevent both the Black Maidens and Princesses from participating at the upcoming FIFA U17 and U20 Women’s World Cup.
Widespread reports already indicate the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) is planning to stripped off Ghana’s hosting rights for the 2018 Africa Women’s Championship.
