The Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye has revealed that his outfit are in advanced negotiations with companies to sell matches of the senior national team, the Black Stars.
The move which according to the Minister will be on contractual basis for a period will be done without the consent of the Ghana Football Association since they don’t own the team.
In an interview with Ghana News Agency, the Minister revealed that ” We are looking forward to franchising Black Stars matches, so that whoever gives us the amount of money we demand, will have the right to organize Black Stars matches.
We are still negotiating. We can give the sponsor number of matches the team would play and how much it will cost. If the sponsor is ready to that amount of money, then fine. They will take care of advertising, broadcasting and everything. Whatever the sponsor gets out of it is theirs”. Nii Lante stated.
The former broadcaster also also indicated that his outfit doesn’t need to sought the permission of the FA before going ahead with his plans since it’s the government but not the FA who cater for the Black Stars.
“We don’t need approval from the FA. The FA doesn’t fund national team. The Ministry and government does so whatever means and sources used to get the appropriate funding for the team,GFA doesn’t have the power to say no”
This move by the government appointee is expected to be met with disapproval by the Ghana Football Association who have been organizing the team’s games.
