Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association Fred Pappoe has taken a swipe on the GFA Noramalisation Committee for their inability to hand stiffer punishment to clubs involved in hooliganism in the Special Competition.
There have been unsporting behaviour by clubs supporters at various league centers to the extent that Asante Kotoko Policy Analyst Dr. Amo Sarpong had to pull a gun to defend his life at the Berekum Golden City.
Aduana Stars FC had engaged in a similar violence manner with the recent one being an assault on a referee at the Cape Coast Stadium after Hearts of Oak’s 2-1 away win over Ebusua Dwarfs.
However, the Normalisation Committee disciplinary Committee has only handed a stadium ban to these clubs and the former Black Stars management committee chairman feels a mere stadium ban isn’t enough to curb the incessant hooliganism in attempt to sanitize football in the country.
‘’Still, there are a lot of lessons that have not been learnt and I find it sad. Its been a problem from the old regime and same after the Anas exposè.’’
‘’People display hooliganism at the stadium and the thing to do is to impose a very stiff punishment that will serve as effective deterrent and until we impose these punishments to affect clubs and its followers rather than favoring the clubs and giving one or two home match ban, it won’t work. These are jokes, we are just pretending as if we are solving the problem. Fred Pappoe told KUMASI FM 104.1MHZ.
He added ‘’There have to be stiffer bans and fines on the venue, clubs and its followers. How come people go free after slapping referees at the stadium when same cases are criminal outside the stadium. It makes people create the culture assaulting people at the stadium is free. We need to look at the problem in the face and act like men.
‘’What is the sense in a one match ban, how much fine do they impose on them and when was the last time a serious fine was imposed? It doesn’t make any serious sense, those kind of things are jokes. The punishment meted out to these clubs are too mile and cosmetic.
‘’You should be able to ban for a whole season or play behind closed doors for a season or half. That is what we should do and stop this joke.’’
