Ghana head coach Otto Addo has extended his congratulations to Sudan following the Black Stars’ 1-0 defeat in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier on Tuesday.
Ghana faced Sudan in a crucial Round 4 qualifier in Libya, after being held to a goalless draw in the first meeting between the two sides. The loss has put Ghana’s qualification hopes in jeopardy, as they now sit third in Group F.
Speaking to the Ghana Football Association’s media team, Coach Otto Addo praised Sudan for their passion and determination, crediting them for their well-earned victory.
“Congratulations to Sudan. Coach Kwesi Appiah has always been a gentleman before and after the game. They did well. They showed passion in their match, and I would like to congratulate them for this,” Addo remarked.
The Black Stars boss also took the opportunity to thank his technical staff for their support, despite the team’s struggles in the doubleheader against Sudan. Addo revealed that he has already spoken with his players individually to address certain issues and is now focused on moving forward.
“I want to thank the team for at least trying, knowing that it wasn’t good enough. We had a good talk afterward. I had individual discussions with players where we tackled specific issues and moments from the game. It was a really hard pill to swallow, but I also want to thank the entire technical staff for standing by me during these tough times because, as Ghana, we should qualify for AFCON,” Addo said.
With the defeat, Ghana remains third in Group F, trailing both Angola and Sudan, leaving the team with an uphill task in the remaining qualifiers.
