Sunderland AFC has reportedly finalized a loan agreement with RC Lens for Ghanaian international midfielder Salis Abdul Samed, according to sources from Le Parisien and Foot Mercato.
Salis Abdul Samed, who has been on the transfer market this summer, garnered interest from several French clubs, including FC Nantes, Stade Brestois, and AS Saint-Etienne. However, in a surprising twist, the 24-year-old is set to leave France for a stint in England’s Championship with Sunderland.
Under the new management of Will Still at RC Lens, Abdul Samed found himself sidelined and was made available for transfer. Despite the strong interest from Ligue 1 clubs, the midfielder is poised to continue his career with Sunderland, now under the leadership of Régis Le Bris, the former FC Lorient manager.
The loan deal, which does not include an option for Sunderland to purchase Abdul Samed permanently, is expected to give the midfielder ample playing time and an opportunity to rejuvenate his career.
Abdul Samed is anticipated to arrive in Wearside shortly to undergo his medical, with his addition set to bolster Sunderland’s midfield as they aim for promotion in the competitive Championship.
