The South African Football Association (Safa), has accepted CAF’s desperate SOS as emergency host for the 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations; pending the development of a business case and approval from the government of South Africa.
This decision was reached at, after the request by CAF was thoroughly deliberated on, at the Safa AGM, held in Sandton on Sunday afternoon.
President of Safa, Danny Jordan, was asked by CAF to seriously consider the possibilities of hosting this tournament, after Cameroon was stripped off the hosting right due to safety concerns in the country and its slow paced preparations for the continental showpiece.
A key requirement among the request by CAF was the ability of the emergency host country to offer the plug and play option because of the shortness of time.
Safa believes that requirement isn’t far fetched and that CAF can just bring in their computers, plug them in and start playing in South Africa.
Following this rapid response to CAF’s request, the president of Safa, Danny Jordan, has resolved of putting together a proposal whilst requesting for a meeting with the South African government in the shortest possible time.
South Africa has an enormous infrastructural competitive advantage over other countries on the African continent owing to their ability of successfully hosting the 2010 World Cup.
South Africa boast of an amazing 10 World Cup Stadia including the Famous FNB Stadium that hosted Barcelona earlier in the year.
The 2019 African Cup Of Nations will be held from June 15- July 13 with 24 participating countries.
