Former Nigerian left-back Taye Taiwo has been inducted into French side Olympique Marseille’s Hall of Fame.
The 39-year-old Lagos-born played for Marseille between 2005 and 2011, playing 192 games and scoring 17 goals.
The Nigerian had an incredible stay in France, where he helped the team win Ligue 1, 2 Coupe de la Ligue, 1 Trophée des Champions and 1 UEFA Intertoto Cup with Marseille.
Blessed with pace, power and aggression, Taiwo combined defending and attacking qualities, making him one of the best left-backs then.
Olympique Marseille has had famous stars like Abedi Pele, Jean-Pierre Papin, Fabian Barthez, Didier Deschamps, Cris Waddle, Marcel Desailly and Dimitri Payet, among so many superstars. It is a great honour for Taye Taiwo to be recognised as a player who has contributed a lot to the success of the club.
He was included in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year in 2007/2008, 2008/2009 and 2010/2011.
Taye Taiwo won 54 caps for the Super Eagles of Nigeria scoring scored 8 goals.
