Medeama SC head coach Nebojsa Kapor has voiced his frustration over the poor state of football pitches in Ghana following his team’s narrow 1-0 win over Legon Cities at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
In the Matchday 2 fixture of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League, Medeama secured a hard-fought victory with Mamudu Kamaradin scoring the decisive goal in the first half. Despite the win, Kapor was critical of the playing conditions, calling on authorities to urgently address the deteriorating state of football pitches across the country.
“The pitches in Ghana, including Baba Yara, Accra, Cape Coast, and now Legon Stadium, are simply not up to standard,” the Bosnian coach remarked in his post-match comments. “There’s a lot of room for improvement. The grounds should be better if we want to raise the level of football here.”
Kapor’s concerns come at a time when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has banned Ghana’s Baba Yara Stadium due to its poor playing surface. As a result, the Black Stars will now have to host Sudan in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on neutral ground.
Medeama SC, who currently sit at the top of the Premier League standings, will next face Basake Holy Stars at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Stadium on Friday, September 27.
