Abdul Fatawu draws motivation from the passionate rendition of his name by Leicester City supporters, a sentiment that propels him to reciprocate their unwavering support following his match-winning performance against AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday.
The Ghanaian forward’s sublime strike in extra time secured a 1-0 victory at the Vitality Stadium, advancing City to the quarter-finals of the Emirates FA Cup.
A beloved figure among the Blue Army, Fatawu, currently on loan from Sporting Lisbon, was uplifted by the nearly 2,000 traveling fans chanting his name both before and after his decisive goal on the South Coast.
After finding the net, the 19-year-old sprinted towards the away stand to celebrate with the supporters.
“It’s always amazing being with the supporters,” the 19-year-old said. “We need to make them happy. I had nowhere [else] to go, I just needed to go to them because they were here for us. To celebrate with them, I feel so good and happy.
“The song always gives me more energy when I hear them singing it. It’s a great feeling. Sometimes it’s so emotional because I feel so happy about the song and the fans. That’s why we’re always ready to do our best to make them happy.”
