The Asante Kotoko full-back took to Twitter to share some of his memories of the year 2020 and according to one of the best right backs in the country , he harbors mixed feelings.
“Its been a year of mixed emotions. It hasn’t been the smooth year we expected but I can count some amazing moments out of it. I pray we end the year on a positive note.” Nettey tweeted his New Year message.
” I wish you a happy new year…” he added.
However despite all the negativities and set backs that 2020 presented due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 it was still the best year for Nettey in terms of international football. To represent one’s country at the senior international level is the dream of almost all footballers and that reality came to pass for the 22-year old.
Kotoko were in Samreboi for a friendly game against Division One side Samartex when Nettey rceeived the call that he had been invited to the Black Stars for the 2021 AFCON qualifiers against Sudan. This late invitation became necessary for head coach C.K Akonnor as some of the already called internationals could not honor the invitation for several reasons and it was all good for Nettey – a home based player.
On 12 November, 2020 at the Cape Coast stadium Nettey was selected to start against the the Sudane – a game Ghana won 2-0 thanks to a spectacular brace from skipper Andre Ayew. The Kotoko player did not disappoint for the 70 minutes he was on the pitch as he earned praises from both fans and coach Akonnor after the match.
On other hand of Nettey’s professional career is his club Asante Kotoko who have not had is smoothly at the start of 2020/21 season as they would have expected. Head coach Maxwell Konadu was sacked following a league defeat against Great Olympics and the team lost at home against Al-Hilal in the CAF Champions League – a game that Nettey played the full 90 minutes.
Indeed 2020 was full of happenings – the good and the bad – for the Attram DeVisser Soccer Academy product.
