Ghana international Andre Ayew has bid Al Sadd an emotional farewell following his departure from the club by mutual consent.
Ayew agreed with the club to terminate his contract allowing him to become a free agent after spending three years with the club since joining in 2021.
The attacking midfielder also expressed gratitude to his previous manager, Xavi Hernandez, who brought him to Barcelona in 2021 as a free agent from Swansea City in England.
The 33-year-old made the following comment in a statement issued by the Ayew brothers’ spokesperson, Fifi Tackie:
“Big thanks to Al Saad FC, the coaches who believed in me at Al Saad FC, especially Xavi who brought me here, and to all my teammates.
“I also want to thank the amazing fans for the massive support all these years.
“It was great and humbling serving this great club. The trophies we won and the impact we made was based on hard work and I count myself fortunate to have been part of the club’s rich history.
“We won the Qatar Stars League, the Qatar FA Cup (Emir Cup).
“I wish Al Saad FC all the best. The club will always have a special place in my heart.”
Ayew won two trophies with the Qatari side, scoring 18 goals in 29 appearances while also providing two assists.
