Togbe Afede, the financial backer of Hearts of Oak, expresses concern over a disruptive trend among some supporters, causing turmoil in the club’s relationships with coaches.
The revered football institution, with a rich history, recently said farewell to Dutch trainer Martin Koopman, prompting inquiries into the team’s internal dynamics.
Afede is disheartened by the unsettling pattern where supporters, initially fervent in endorsing new coaches, later turn against them for unclear reasons. This shifting allegiance, as Afede notes, creates overwhelming pressure on coaching staff, leading to resignations or terminations.
Hearts of Oak finds itself in transition due to this volatile supporter-coach dynamic, with Martin Koopman’s departure being the latest casualty. Assistant Coach Abdul Bashiru Rahim assumes the role of caretaker coach.
Reflecting on the situation, Afede remarked, “When we got Boadu from Medeama, insults were plentiful. People even labeled him a fake person on some Hearts platforms. Today, they want him back; it is unbelievable.”
Afede points out how relationships influenced by individuals resistant to progress for Hearts of Oak adversely affect coaches. Kenichi, for instance, faced a change in attitude despite initial success.
Afede shared, “Sometimes these relationships and the people who are anti progress for Hearts of Oak mess the coach around they mess them up and clearly one of course is Kenichi who was doing so well after he won four, five matches he made new friends“
“Then he turn against us he sat he and told us what we have never heard before he wanted to go on leave we could give you a leave and he left,”
