Hearts of Oak’s board chairman, Togbe Afede, has emphasized that the club has high expectations for the players this season, especially because they no longer endure long bus journeys to training.
Togbe Afede explained that the construction of the Pobiman facility provides a place for players to stay, eliminating the need for them to travel from their homes to training.
During Hearts of Oak’s Annual General Meeting, Togbe highlighted the reasons why the team should be performing better this season:
“While we are making these investments, I want to assure you that our primary goal remains winning trophies.
“Consider the past, without Pobiman. The team used to set off five hours ahead of training to pick up players from around Accra. By the time they reached the training pitch, the first player picked up would have already been sitting in the car for five hours. After training, they had to endure the same process, which meant the last player to alight would have spent five hours in the car.
“Today, thanks to Pobiman, we don’t have to go around picking them up, which saves us on fuel costs and prevents player fatigue. Because they are now staying at Pobiman, they wake up and are on the pitch within seconds. This is why we expected so much from them, more than what we are currently seeing. They no longer have to spend hours in the bus. That’s why the coach can conduct two training sessions a day because they are all there.”
