Black Meteors defender Kingsley Fobi is excited by the historic win against Algeria, stressing they were determined for the victory in the second leg of the Under 23 AFCON final qualifier in Setif Tuesday night.
The Watford asset, who put up a scintillating performance in the two legs, says that Ghanaians lost confidence in the team following their lackluster 1-1 draw with the North Africans in Accra and that gingered them to record victory in Algeria.
“The game yesterday was very tough, we drew with them in our home and playing away and seeking a win was not an easy task,” Fobi said as quoted by Dailymailgh.com.
“We were in high spirits and we had only one motive, to give our maximum best and also to qualify. At the end we did just that and won the game.
“A lot of Ghanaians did not believe we could come and beat Algeria at their own backyard but we knew what we were capable of doing and believed in our capabilities. We did it and I am very proud of everyone’s effort,” he added.
Captain Yaw Yeboah scored the match winner for Ibrahim Tanko’s side in the 69th minute with a brilliant finish after a solid run into the Algerian penalty box.
Ghana by virtue a 2-1 aggregate win over the North African side, have booked qualification to the 2019 Under 23 AFCON to be held in Egypt.
The tournament starts in Egypt in November this year. The to three country at the tourney automatically will qualify to represent Africa at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games men’s soccer.
