Doris Boaduwaa’s brace ensured the Black Queens posted a 3-1 victory over Namibia in the first leg of the final 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium.
This victory puts the Black Queens in a favorable position as they aim to qualify for the Women’s AFCON after missing out on the last two editions. The second leg is scheduled to be played in Namibia on Tuesday, December 5, and a successful outcome will propel the Black Queens into the AFCON tournament.
Under the guidance of coach Nora Hauptle, the Black Queens conceded for the first time since her appointment in February 2023. Doris Boaduwaa opened the scoring 26 minutes into the game, followed by Portia Boakye scoring directly from a corner to give Ghana a 2-0 lead at halftime. Doris added a second goal from close range in the 58th minute.
Although Namibia managed to reduce the deficit with an own goal from Portia Boakye, the Black Queens secured a 3-1 victory, putting them in a promising position for the second leg.
The return leg in Namibia awaits as the Black Queens chase a spot in next year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
