Aduana Stars produced a big performance to defeat Accra Hearts of Oak by 2-0 at the Agyeman Badu Stadium on Wednesday afternoon in a rescheduled Week One fixture as Rady Ovouka missed a 90th minute opportunity from the spot to score a consolation goal for the Phobians.
Yahaya Mohammed – who before the game promised to score against the Phobians – slotted home from a tight angle inside the area following a rebound that resulted from a shot by Aduana midfielder Flavien Kouassi in the 42nd minute before former Asante Kotoko player Prince Acquah made it 2-0 for the Bono side with a brilliant long range effort three minutes after the break.
The Week 1 fixture could not be played on opening day of the season due to Covid-19 issues in the team of Hearts of Oak.
The home side saw coach Samuel Fabin make four changes to his starting formation from the one that commenced against Eleven Wonders – a game that ended in a 1-1 draw. Star striker Yahaya Mohammed, full back Isaac Kwain and Gyamfi Camara picked starting berths instead of Emmanuel Osei Baffour, Sam Adams, and Fatau Abdul Rahman respectively. Also defender Baba Musah made way for Hafiz Adams.
Head coach Kosta Papic – who maintained his 4-1-3-2 tactics – made just a change to his starting line-up from the one that beat Dreams FC 3-0 with Abdul Manaf coming in to replace midfielder Frederick Ansa Botchway but the former failed to deliver a desirable performance.
Patrick Razak broke free in the first half on the counter as Hearts of Oak had the first real chance of the game to score but the winger – who should have passed the ball to the better-placed Obeng Kojo Jr – lacked good decision making inside the area as Aduana defenders recovered in numbers to clear the danger.
The 2009 Ghana Premier League winners went ahead to protect their lead as they recorded their first win of the season after drawing three and losing one to Elmina Sharks.
