Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has hinted at the possibility of calling up Dutch-born Ghanaian goalkeeper Rome Owusu-Oduro in the future.
The AZ Alkmaar shot-stopper has reportedly been on the radar of the Ghana Football Association, but he was not included in the 23-man squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
Speaking at a press conference, Addo emphasized that Ghana is interested in every talented player with Ghanaian heritage. “We are focusing on our next game, and one thing you can be sure of is that every player who is good and has Ghanaian heritage, and could play for the national team, we are interested,” Addo said.
He added, “If somebody has a Ghanaian name and he plays in the top leagues in Europe, this question is for sure.”
Owusu-Oduro, who has featured in three games for AZ Alkmaar this season and kept two clean sheets, has yet to make his debut for the Black Stars.
Ghana will face Angola in Kumasi on Thursday, September 5, 2024, before taking on Niger four days later in Morocco. Notably, Niger does not currently have a CAF-approved stadium to host continental games.
