The leadership of the National Circles Council and National Chapters Committee of Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak respectively met over the weekend to discuss various issues concerning their associations . The meeting between the rival supporters groups has been met with mixed reactions with certain sections labeling it a taboo but Chapters Committee chairman Elvis Herman Hesse who represented the Phobians says the football rivalry between the two clubs should not bar them them pursuing a worthy cause together.
“There is nothing wrong with meeting Kotoko supporters to discuss such important issues like these. We talked about the London match which was suspended due to the virus. Our supporters keep on calling us to demand for their passports and so this meeting was arranged to see how best we can solve these challenges” Elvis told Kumasi-based Fox FM on Monday.
“We also discussed the canker of football hooliganism in our game. Yesterday some of our supporters called me and asked if I had ever seen Barcelona and Real Madrid supporters meet officially like this before. I also responded with a question and I asked them when was the last time chaos and mayhem broke out among fans of Bacelona and Real Madrid during and after games.” Elvis quizzed.
“It is our role as supporters leaders to educate our members about the need to avoid violence when we go out to support our teams and for me this meeting with Kotoko circles was on point. We are not enemies” the Hearts of Oak board member added.
Present at the meeting from the Hearts of Oak corner were NCC boss Elvis Hesse, Peter Maamah the NCC Gen. Secretary, Madam Vicentia Deku the 2nd Vice Chairperson , Kobby Jones the PRO and his first deputy Kasim Awal , Addo Adjei Aikins the 2nd Dep organizer and Godstime Addo Nortey an Executive member.
The Kotoko Circles representatives were Christopher Demanya the Executive Chairman, Nana Kwame Dankwah the 1st Vice Chairman and former management member of Kotoko, Hon. Joseph Korto a Special Assistant, Alex Osei Wusu the PRO, Jude Buta Oduro the Financial Secretary and George Acheampong the Deputy Organizer and finally Kofi Edusei an Executive member.
