Ghana’s Deputy Sports Minister, Evans Opoku Bobbie, holds a positive outlook regarding the Black Stars’ prospects for making a significant impact at the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, which is slated to be hosted in Ivory Coast.
The Black Stars recently confirmed their qualification for the tournament with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Central African Republic in Kumasi, securing the top position in their group.
This will mark the Black Stars’ 24th appearance at the AFCON tournament, and they aspire to end a lengthy championship drought, with their last victory dating back to 1982.
Evans Opoku Bobbie expressed his confidence that by undertaking thorough preparations and addressing technical aspects, the team can perform exceptionally well in the upcoming tournament.
Reflecting on the challenging qualification campaign, Bobbie remarked during an interview on Akoma FM, “It was very difficult, but in the end, we managed to secure qualification.” He emphasized the importance of the technical team assessing the team’s performance and making necessary corrections before the AFCON.
He further stated, “With good preparations and addressing some technical mistakes in our team, I firmly believe that we can make a substantial impact at AFCON 2023.”
