Black Stars and Torino midfielder Afriyie Acquah says players of Ghana’s senior national team the Black Stars do not play for money contrary to perception that they are using the team as a conduit to enrich themselves.
Players of the Black Stars team have received massive bashing from Ghanaians after their Brazil 2014 debacle over issues of patriotism and commitment to their beloved country but Acquah shares different thoughts to that.
According to the former Palermo hardworking midfielder players of the Black Stars team feel honoured whenever they’re been called to represent their country.
Acquah added that the sort of respect and recognition they the players earn at their respective clubs after playing for Ghana alone is a great motivation to the playing body.
Speaking in interview with Kumasi based Abusua FM, the 25-year-old midfield warrior stated clearly that they [Black Stars] ]players are patriotic and do not intend to hold Ghana to ransom as predicted by a session of Ghanaian football lovers.
‘’As players we feel bad for not being able to win the AFCON for our dear country so we share Ghanaians frustration and want to apologize to them all for another disappointment’’. Said Afriyie Acquah.
He added ‘’ People have always lambasted us with the assertion that we do not love our country and that we play only for money the truth is that we really love Ghana our nation and ready to sacrifice and as well play our hearts out anytime we are given the opportunity to play for the Black Stars team’’.
‘’ We are treated very well with lots of respect when re turn to our various clubs after featuring for the nation so why would people say we don’t love the country that has projected our career after making us popular at the world stage’’
Acquah, a member of the Stars team that finished fourth at the recently ended AFCON in Gabon however urged Ghanaians to continue to offer them unalloyed support as the team prepares for its remaining Russia 2018 world Cup qualifying matches to ensure they book qualification for the fourth time in the history of the World Cup.
