Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed his satisfaction with the performance of Ghana’s young players during the 2025 Unity Cup, emphasizing that the technical team will continue to monitor their development at club level.
Ghana capped off their campaign in the tournament with a resounding 4-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, securing third place after a disappointing 2-1 semifinal loss to Nigeria earlier in the week.
Veteran forward Jordan Ayew led by example, opening the scoring in the 15th minute before setting up two more goals. The standout moment of the match, however, was the impact of Ghana’s younger generation. Nations FC midfielder Razak Simpson and Union Saint-Gilloise striker Mohammed Fuseini both marked their senior national team debuts with goals, while Cercle Brugge’s Lawrence Agyekum capped off the performance with a well-taken strike in the 57th minute.
Speaking to the media after the match, Otto Addo commended the youthful side for their performance and underlined the importance of giving opportunities to emerging talents.
“In general, we got a lot of answers, and it’s also good to look to the future. I think some of the boys used the chances,” Addo said.
“They did really well, and surely we will continue to observe them.”
The Black Stars boss also noted the importance of continuity and development, pointing to the team’s progress in the previous international window.
“For us, we played well in the last World Cup qualifiers as well. We will observe and see how they do in their clubs, and like I said, today I’m very satisfied.”
With the Unity Cup campaign wrapped up, Ghana now turns its focus to the crucial next phase of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Black Stars are set to return to action in September, facing Chad away before hosting Mali in Matchdays 7 and 8. Addo and his technical team will be watching closely to see which of the Unity Cup performers can earn their place in those decisive fixtures.
