Ghana Premier League side Medeam SC’s communications chief Patrick Akoto, says the country’s football governing body only needs a calculator to disburse the FIFA Covid-19 relief fund to its members.
Ghana, like other FIFA member associations will receive and additional grant of $500,000 from the world body specifically for women’s football.
The Ghana FA on Tuesday in a statement said that the ”Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has tasked the Finance Committee chaired by Vice President Mark Addo to advise on the disbursement of the FIFA COVID-19 Relief Fund,”
The statement added that ”’This decision is to make sure that all stakeholders of the federation duly benefit from the fund that has been set up by FIFA to alleviate some of the hardships on the various facets of the industry in the era of the pandemic,.
”The GFA is entitled to one million dollars ($1m) that would be paid in two tranches – the first one in July 2020 and the second tranche scheduled for January 2021.
”The money is for the use of the FA and also to be shared among clubs that compete in the top-level leagues, grassroots football (Juvenile), lower-tier leagues and women’s football.
”FIFA has also set aside five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) purposely for women’s football.
But according to Akoto, the FA doesn’t need any Finance Committee to advice them on how the FIFA COVID-19 Relief Fund should be disbursed to the clubs.
”It’s unnecessary for the GFA to task the fiance committee to offer any advice on how the FIFA COVID-19 Relief Fund should be disbursed,” said Patrick Akoto.
He added that ” The FA need just a calculator to disburse the money to the clubs,”
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) recently received $1 million from football’s world governing body FIFA as part of a $1.5 billion being made available for the football community as part of a COVID-19 relief plan.
